Greetings from a fellow brit!
Still in, for family reasons. One day maybe we can all have an apostabeer together...
my name is russ, i'm 40 years old, from the uk, and i left the jws nearly 5 years ago.
i've been a member of the yuku board throughout that time, so there are probably some on here who know me already.
there seems to be more activity over here at the moment, so i thought i'd pop in and say hi.i was raised as a jw, started questioning it when i was 16, but there was no internet back then (well, no www anyway) so i got sucked right in and got baptized when i was 18. auxiliary pioneered on and off for a couple of years, then became a ministerial servant.

check this out.
got this bound volume from my dad.. .
These talks and quotes are a great resource for if the allegation is ever made "we never specifically said the end would come in 1975." Yeh you might not have specifically said that but you sure as hell hyped it up to give that impression.
Thing is, I know the response. Oh those INDIVIDUALS might have implied it in their zeal, but surely it's better to be overzealous than lacking?

youtuber peter rose called bethel and asked them if it was true that peter sutcliffe was baptized.
the brother who answered didn't think so but went off somewhere to check and came back to say that it wasn't true.
guess where i am?

i've posted this dunig the watchtower study at the hall using a mobile phone and a pocket pc - only a few strange looks from the people sat near.. i'll be glad when its time to go home - its' as boring as ever !
Loads of us have been posting from the KH for the last couple of years! It's the only thing that enables us to sit through that dross! I believe one poster started a thread whilst reading the WT from the platform! Captain something or other..
(edited to say, yes I DID realise this was fourteen years ago, but how easy it is now with the tech that's available to us, and how it keeps us sane!)
for those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?
(before you read i hope no one gets offended by the word retarted...that s how i thought when i was 13)my mom and dad are divorced and my father never helped my mother on raising us, so basically she was a single-mother.
he just abandoned my three brothers and me and my mother had to work two jobs all of the time so we never got to see her.
when we did see her it was after school, but all she did was yell at us, make food, and leave to her next job.
Well, what an interesting read from start to finish! You know what, if I'd ever experienced anything like that it would probably have swayed me into an unwavering belief in a higher power. As it stands, I'm a 40 years born in jdubya who has prayed intensely, repeatedly, for clarification, knowledge, wisdom, a sign, ANYTHING, but received naff all.
You made it here dudess, good for you, I reckon you'll be just fine! Dodged a bullet there!

the bible does say that the "day of jehovah" (armageddon) would be associated with the sun becoming dark followed by the moon turning to blood.
but the moon turning to blood is specific to a total lunar eclipse.
so im here fine tooth combing the latest [mar 15th] watchtower propaganda leaflet the last study article, finding not a scripture in its correct context, [thats for another post, lol] when i thought, hmm, how many times does it say to preach in the bible.. so i go to bible gateway, and type in 'preach'.
[ not preached] .
i got 2nd timothy.. i read the whole 2 books of timothy.. an it appears to me, that paul, wh has his own agenda, wrote those words to timothy, after all it says a letter to tim, .
Ha! PURE confirmation bias. WhatEVER happens, it's jahs will.
I remember a brother getting slagged off for getting materialistic, having a nice new beemer, obviously being blessed by satan because he wasn't reaching out. There were three elders locally with beemers and mercs! But, oh no, they weren't materialistic, they were being blessed by Jehovah!
Whatever...
on page 13 of the december 15, 2014 watchtower (study edition), the first 2 sentences of paragraph 10 say:.
"the symbolic separating of fish does not refer to the final judgment during the great tribulation.
rather, it highlights what would happen during the last days of this wicked system.".

The answer keeps getting made at out Hall that it's soo wonderful that God chose imperfect men to record the bible cos we can relate to it. I want to stick my hand up and say NO, it'd be better if it was beamed down by angels then there wouldn't be inconsistencies and contradictions. Of course if that HAD happened then they'd all be answering about how wonderful it is that God didn't use imperfect humans to transmit his thoughts like all those other imperfect holy books, as mistakes would be bound to creep in. Confirmation bias at its finest.
